At last! Someone else who hates that dirge of a song. Everyone Iknow LOVES it and it's on many burnt-CDs and old compilation tapes and it seems to follow me around wherever I go!
I'll agree with you on this one. Horrible blarting sax.
But worst song ever written? Surely that's 'Life' by Desirae
I quite like it. But I like that strain of grown up pop that also includes yer man Cliff's actually really great string of late 70's and early 80s hits like Carrie, Daddy's Home, Devil Woman and, oh yes, Wired For Sound.
I find it hard to revisit Cliff, given the sins commited to vinyl since the 70's. Carrie and Devil Woman certainly had sinister undertones long gone from his 'music'.
Madame Suicide has just pointed out that 'Life' (worst song ever) was actually recorded by Des'ree.
I'm with you on Des'ree - just atrocious, very much in the same way Manic Street Preachers' A Design For Life is atrocious

Where do you stand on 'Love Shack' by the B-52's. I'm for obliteration from existence.

Sylvana - you're a lovely person, but your choice of worst records is woeful. Baker Street features strongly on my compilation of 'classic sax breaks' along with 'Will you' from breaking glass. There's allmanner of techno/rap nonsense to hate - this doesn't come close.

Hello James. I remember raiding your dad's vinyl collection in Loudon Street when I was a kid. Used to listen to the Beach Boys and the Beatles - I can remember 'Good Vibrations' and 'Ticket to Ride'

You get a better class of contributer over here Chips. We all know Raphael Ravenscoft played the sax on Baker Street. Not the urban myth perpetuated by Steve Wright in the eighties.

Ok, for those of us who don't know what they're on about, apparently Steve Wright of Radio 1 spread a false rumour that the awful sax on Baker Street was played by Bob Holness the host of 80s tea-time student's quiz 'Blockbusters'.

My Dad still has all of those records, and his taste hasnt improved much over the years.
Although he did go out and buy the Scissor Sisters.
I don't think buying a Scissor Sisters record is, in any imaginable way, an improvement on Gerry Rafferty James!
I tried telling my dad this, but he likes them. Apparently "it has a good beat".

It's a fantastic four minutes of bile directed (primarily) at Sammy Hagar by way of retribution for his role in 'destroying the legacy of early Van Halen'.
