Mood: On The Go

Pharoah Sanders: Moniebah (Timeless, 1990)
I got into the office early and this lovely creature was sat on my desk. I had meant to play it on Friday afternoon but never got round to it. Well, Moniebah is perfect Monday morning music. But I have reserved the rest of the album - which gets a little more challenging for a time when my head will be a little more adept at dealing with it (like Thursday, perhaps)...

Pharaoh Saunders, what can I say, an all time great although his recent live performances have been a little lacking. Not withstanding this I am booked to see him in Camden at the end of Jan ’08 and trust that the Mrs will enjoy him more than she did Steve Reid recently!

I remember a Straight No Chaser (rip) interview some years ago that was very disappointing, for all the ‘Egyptology’ in his music, he had never been there, and didn’t express the slightest interest in it! Perhaps he was just irked by the question.

Anyway, top start to a Monday, and I don’t believe I have a copy of it, so that will give me something to do this afternoon!

I think he just likes the idea of it - he's a showman!

I know nothing of Pharaoh Sanders other than the fact I bought his album Karma because 'The Creator Has A Masterplan' was such an excellent song title.

What's more, it was bloody brilliant too.

You have just reminded me too investigate him further, so many thanks.

All the best,

Ian TB

the man, the master, he who keeps the flame alive. In my all time top ten gigs was a show he did back when the jazz cafe was brand new and they had seating downstairs. I sat at the very front table no more than two feet away from Pharaoh's horn. It was amazing.
Praise be

stephen - good to see you on Saturday, old boy. I went to a few gigs when it was still seated there... GIl Scott Heron for one!

My uncle LOVES Pharoah Sanders and has passed a bunch of his albums on to me. I've really tried with them, but they're all a bit too sqonking for my taste. However, I'll dig up the one you've suggested and give it a go. Sooner or later, I'm bound to hear what everybody else is hearing in there...
