Rakim: It's The R (Island, 1999)
I only went downstairs to find a phone number and I found a promo copy of this. To be honest, it doesn't look like I ever played it, which seems odd, so, eight and a bit years later, I gave it a go. Verdict? Not completely amazing, but there are some nice tunes on it. Of which, this might be the nicest. I'm of opinion that Rakim's Follow The Leader is one of the greatest records of all time. But that's just me...

Yes, yes, yes. Follow the Leader is fantastic. All four albums are amazing but the first two are just stunning. Dig out the first EPMD album as well. Still sounds fresh as yer actual daisy.
Don't get me started on eric and parrish - we'll be here all day!
I’m a big fan (not that I listen to them much now). I saw Eric B and Rakim at Brixton, supporting Public Enemy (I think?) and they definitely earned the top spot. (or did they support LL Cool Jay, or was he second billing…..)
Any way, from that night, it’s fair to say they were the mutts….!

'Paid In Full' is a fine album as well. Also check out his greatest hits, captured on 'The 18th Letter'.
For my money, Rakim is the toppermost of the hip-hoppermost...
