Two New Records That Are, Literally, Quite Good

The Heliocentrics: Sirius A (Stones Throw, 2007)
This is the sort of record that makes coming back from holiday worthwhile. Much beloved by - *serious face* - DJ Shadow and Madlib, Ver 'Centrics are so analogue, so breakbeat, so downright space-jazz groovy that just listening to their album makes you want to call your firstborn Sun Ra and take to wearing a kufi.

Asobi Seksu: Strawberries [Ulrich Schnauss remix] (One Little Indian, 2007)
This Ulrich Schnauss mix is great. When I say great, I mean it makes New York indie-rockers Ver Seksu sound (a bit) like Slowdive. I think that, if not all, then the majority of the world's bands should sound like Slowdive. It's not a popular point of view - it won't win me many friends - but it's one I hold dear.

heliocentrics - been doing the rounds in my house and is marginally more acceptable to some than sun ra!

Quite a bit of jazz appearing here recently, like it

Hope your holiday was good

"the majority of the world's bands should sound like Slowdive." Wars have been started over less. You know that, I hope. Any more of your fighting talk and I'll meet you outside Sonic Cathedral on Saturday. It'll be easy to spot me - I'll be the one not wearing a black leather coat, does not have a centre parting, has washed in the past week and whose wardrobe indicates a knowledge and appreciation of colour.

I'm not saying owt just staring at my signed Lush poster. It's on the floor obviously next to my shoes.

I made a record with Miki from Lush once. It never got released, but we did get to spend a night drinking wine at her house.

Fireescape: I can't see you past the curtain of hair and, anyway, my hands are caught in the holes in the arms of my stripey top :(

Rob: you are so R 'n' R I won my Lush poster at college pub quiz! along with my tickets to the half empty lack lustre gig, I did like them though.

Ha! They could be rubbish too, that's true. I blame the booze...
