In October 1965 Violet Carson - that's Ena Sharples to you and me - recevied the O.B.E. from the Queen at Buckingham Palace. After the ceremony she headed straight to the Old Bell near the Strand for a refreshing milk stout. I love the guy in the hat on the left.
