Suzanne Vega: Marlene On The Wall (A&M, 1985)
We were getting ready to leave Cornbury at teatime on Sunday when Suzanne Vega came on stage. She was very good and absolutely everyone was loving her. Except me. I can't stand her songs, hate them all, but especially this one.
I grabbed Scrap and ran for the exit, fast as I could.

Oh, I love this song! And that other one she did, erm...'Tom's Diner'!
I finally agree with you on a song.
Dreary, monotone, dull stuff.
That pretty much covers everything she has done.
You can tell she will be dull - just look at the outfit.
god knows i'm not one to criticise, but, how about those hips?
btw: i quite like the record. But then, I even like this :(
A bad record to be sure and even worse was the Luca one about the child on the second floor and then there was the classic Tom's Diner. Not exactly David Bowie.
Oh dear. Only Native 12 sticking up for her then.
And me! I like this and I like this despite some absolutely shocking 80s production twiddles. So there.
And while i'm in the mood, this is a choon...
No - I'm sticking up for her too. Really like her. Great songs. At Cornbury thought she was much better than Midlake who were a bit dreary.
