It was the most meaningless half-hour of my life.

Thanks Rob, you're linked too.

I am duly reprimanded and have rectified the situation. It's a pleasure ;) now where were we ah yes, Birdland bunch of tos......

Just leave The Corn Dollies out of this and we'll be fine...

BLTP said...

The corn dollies are fine it's the Chesterfields and the Bodeans I can't stand

The Corn Dollies? Now there's a band. Head over to the Medium Cool site, Rob, if you really are a fan. The Bodeans, bltp, are an American garage band. You might be thinking of Glossop's The Bodines who, perplexingly, "returned" this year with a new ep.

Rob said...

get out of it - the bodeans rool

Um, for a brief period in 86 The Bodines did rule - their second and third singles (Therese and Heard It All). Despite making two of the greatest singles ever (it's a fact) they succumbed to the curse of the major label and made some middling efforts for RCA/Magnet in 87.

It's all about the Razorcuts for me, tbh. And The Sea Urchins, natch

I am vanquished my miss typing has made me dis the wrong band I was of course sniping at Glossops finest. I shall save my spite for the The Flatmates who weren't a patch on the Brilliant corners now there's an idea.....

I never really got on with either Razorcuts album, but those first three singles are the business. The Sea Urchins were a cut above most, you're absolutely right.

Just managed to listen to the 2 recent nu-indie tunes on balance I prefer the Scotland Yard Gospel Choir (which is very B&S) On the subject of all things hair slide Indie (and awaiting accusations of being a "rocketeer") try this site for the a-z.

Yes! And the Google 'Server Error' message doesn't even have the Google logo right! I mean, YIKES!

Scary, isn't it?
tbh, I can't deal with twee.net - I just don't need it in my life. I have a few old Sarah 7s that I love dearly, but it was a long time ago...

Fire Escape said...

No, I can't deal with tweenet, either (despite linking to it, I haven't read it for years). Without all the bands we've mentioned, however, there wouldn't be such a rich pop scene in Sweden (of which I understand you're a fan).

FE: you speak the truth...

BLTP said...

I should avoid popkitten records and indiepop.it then or you'll be hit by tidal wave of twee. The italian one seems like a parrallel world were being gloomy and fey and from Burnley is the ultimate aspiration in a reverse to us from these places who wished we'd grown up cappuccino kids whizzing around on scooters etc.

Rob said...

I know, it's a bit touched-by-tragedy, innit?

Fire Escape said...

Inhabitants of those worlds sound like they're longing to be on a Smiths record sleeve. Not an aspiration of mine, but if the reverse is being a Style Council devotee, I'm not sure I'm happy with that either.

Rob said...

but surely, it's the style council that would like to be olive-skinned, loafer-wearing, panini-eating scooter boys, not the pther way round? I see your point tho'...

" I want the one I can't have and it's driving me mad" would sum it up.
Also if you came from Merton or Woking maybe a frothy coffee and a cheese and ham toastie seemed like the height of sophistication.

Rob said...

I was born a short hop from Woking. I went to school in Woking. I used to by my records in Woking. I had my first pint in Woking. I never even SAW a frothy coffee until i left Woking :(

BLTP said...

But at least you might bump into Mr Weller every now again, we had to make do with the drummer from Saxon delivering our milk:(

Rob said...

talking of Saxon: I honestly believe this to be the single greatest video of all time...

BLTP said...

Genius, he never wore those spandex trews when he was rattling gold tops down our road of a morning. Plus didn't this vid win the MTV most literal video imagery award 1985

Hahahaha! One day I write a book where I take 600 pages to critique - lovingly - every last frame of this masterpiece. The leering bass-player, the terrible John Lennon poster, the crumpled up letters, Biff's ballet-pose legs, the lot...
