Drat, and I would've gotten away with it, if it wasn't for you meddling kid! Mr Hanna-Barbera peddler of unscary dvds

Thank you Scrap. Ask your Daddy to get you some old ones from the 1970s. Everything was scarier then.

I did get Scrap the original Scooby Doo series reissue recently. It has The Three Stooges and Batman in it, but he wasn't much taken. However, the 1966 Batman series that's on BBC 4 has been a smasheroo... Go figure

Mac knows what you mean Scrap, he was most unimpressed with it, demanded I take it back and buy something "properly scary mummy" with it. Am thinking along the lines of

Not sure about scary but I was watching Ivor the Engine recently with my nephew and it's the most bleak kids show ever. One episode ends with Ivor alone stuck in siding crying because the rest of the chapel choir can go swimming in the sea but he can't! (this is resolved in later episodes but you know)

I bought my niece the Camberwick Green/Trumpton/Chigley box set hoping she'd love it, as I did at her age.

She couldn't have cared less and cried for Dora The Bloody Explorer.

Tsk.
