Hoa Viet

Scrappy and I met Jenny for lunch in our favourite Vietnamese restaurant Hoa Viet on Camberwell Church Street. It's not so much a restaurant as a cafe but they take a lot of pride in their food. They make everything from scratch including the rice noodles - they grind the rice into flour then mix it with water (and nothing else) to make a paste then they spread it into thin discs which they steam before rolling up and cutting it into ribbons. Scrap had chicken rice, most of which came home in a box for Rob's tea tonight. We shared some mini spring rolls and I chose Pho Vit, roast duck noodle soup. It was simple and yummy - good-flavoured broth, fresh noodles, generous amount of tender duck breast and a handful of spring onions. Jenny has begun a pre-Christmas detox and chose healthy Pho Xao Chay, noodles with tofu and aubergine and that too was delicious. We need to go on a detox in our house. We eat too much meat and we could both certainly do with losing a few pounds. From now on it's a minimum of five portions of fruit and veg every day. And 2 litres of water.
